beginner robotics for kids
A good starting point for beginner robotics for kids is a small build that connects a physical part to a clear instruction.
The basic parts
A robot can use sensors to collect information, a controller to process instructions, and motors or other actuators to move. A first project can focus on a motor and a simple sequence before adding sensors.
Start with one task
Choose one action, such as moving a wheel or stopping after a short interval. Build the circuit with adult guidance and follow the kit’s safety instructions. Test one change at a time. Ask the child to describe the instruction and the movement it produced.
Learning with Lab Zero
We manufacture physical robotics kits at Lab Zero and offer live online robotics and AI programs. Explore our kits and ask about program options, required materials, and support before choosing a starting project.
Learning with AI-assisted coding
AI-assisted coding tools can suggest instructions for a robot. Vibe coding describes building software by prompting AI to generate code, often with limited review of the code itself. For a beginner, keep each suggestion small enough to read and explain. With adult guidance, check it against the kit’s instructions and predict the movement before running it. Debugging remains part of learning to code.
Our experience
We have reached 2,500+ students across Brazil, Qatar, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Canada. Lab Zero was founded by Harvard bioengineering graduate Imtisaal Mian with co-founder Rima Rebei. Our partners include Harlem Globetrotters, CUQ Ulster University Qatar, and Broadcom Foundation.
